Only Rain in the Drain! You have seen the message stenciled on sidewalks near storm drains for years. That’s because anything that finds its way into the storm drains will eventually make it to the ocean. According to the State Water Resources Control Board, urban storm water runoff is the leading cause of water pollution in California. Pollutants that go down storm drains can have many negative impacts on our local waters. They poison fish and other aquatic life, and endanger recreational uses such as swimming and boating. Local beaches are closed after most heavy rains due to pollution in the storm runoff. The good news is that Chino Hills residents and business owners can choose to make a difference every day by keeping harmful contaminants off our streets and out of our storm drains.
