Spring sports get set to try synthetic turf at new Chino Hills Community Park
Full Description:
Construction of the new Chino Hills Community Park is ahead of schedule and
City officials are planning to allow spring season sports to begin practicing on the
synthetic turf at the new park as early as February 5th. The park is located at 3280
Eucalyptus Avenue at Peyton Drive. A northbound left-turn lane has been installed on
Peyton Drive at Eucalyptus to allow northbound motorists access to the park.
“We set an optimistic schedule to have the park built by March 31st and we are
thrilled to be ahead of schedule,” said Mike Fleager, Community Services Director. “We
have been working closely with our youth sports groups and we felt that allowing
practices to start at the new park would significantly minimize confusion with
schedules.”
Most of the work is complete at the park but a few finishing touches remain to be
done. The park contractor will continue to work during the day while the park is off limits
to the public. Then, every afternoon, the gates will open and league practices will be
underway. The City Council directed staff to begin planning a grand opening event at
the park on Saturday, February 17th. Initial plans call for the grand opening ceremony to
begin at 11:00 a.m. and activities will continue until 4:00 p.m.
